Thanks to an Arts & Culture grant from TARGET, we are able to provide free themed family days to the local community. These days feature workshops, performances and free Museum admission on one designated Sunday each month. A limited number of hand stamps are given for Museum entrance for 1:00 p.m. & 3:15 p.m time slots on the day of the event and are subject to availability.
July 9: Bubble Blast
We’ve got dozens of bubble wands to make a gazillion bubbles, you’ll learn about the science of bubbles at an amazing bubble show, and some lucky visitors will experience what it’s like to be inside of a giant bubble.
August 6: Under the Sea
Meet our wet Ocean Zone exhibit friends, make crazy octopus hats and mini aquariums, and leave knowing more about how to protect our oceans.
September: The Museum will be closed for its annual renovation period.
October 2: Let's Play!
What's more fun than hula hooping with 200 people, running through a crazy obstacle course, or building giant outdoor forts? Visitors will enjoy family fun while learning through play!
Nov 5: Day of the Dead Celebration
Visitors will enjoy the festivities while making decorated sugar skulls and whimsical Calaveras masks, as well as traditional face painting.
Dec 3: Celebrations of Giving
Discover how children across the globe celebrate the season of giving and take part in art-making, music, and stories celebrating Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, Las Posadas, and Diwali.

Explore everything Science, Art and Engineering on this build-it, create-it, and watch- it-go day! A variety of tinker stations will encourage youngsters to put their minds in motion and see where it takes them!
Feb 11: Celebrate China
Welcome the Year of the Dog and experience Chinese culture and tradition first-hand. Play a traditional game, make a Chinese lantern, join in our dragon dance, and add your New Year’s wish to our wishing tree and make 2018 a lucky year. Visit our very special traveling exhibit The Children of Hangzhou, where you’ll visit the homes of four Chinese children and learn about their everyday lives.
Mar 4: Outdoor Adventures
Join us as we explore the beauty of the outdoors! Make a nature rubbing, search for bugs dawning a pith helmet and magnifying glass, and adopt a caterpillar!
April 1: Reduce, Reuse , Recycle
We're learning how to care for our precious Earth with activities from composting to creating whimsical art with recycled materials.
May 6: Kaleidoscope of Art
Visitors are invited to grab a paintbrush, colored pastels, and clay and let their imaginations run wild in this art-inspired day! Materials will be available for every age level to create a personal masterpiece.
June 3: Railroad Round Up!
A nod to the Museum’s train heritage with miniature trains chugging in outdoor demonstrations brought to us by local train enthusiasts Toy Train Operating Society.
