Thanks to an Arts & Culture grant from TARGET, we are able to provide free themed family days to the local community. These days feature workshops, performances and free Museum admission on one designated Sunday each month. A limited number of hand stamps are given for Museum entrance for 1:00 p.m. & 3:15 p.m time slots on the day of the event and are subject to availability.
June 5: Railroad Round Up!
A nod to the Museum’s train heritage with miniature trains chugging in outdoor demonstrations brought to us by local train enthusiasts Toy Train Operating Society.
July 3: Americana Fest
Museum visitors will embrace the times of the old west and the American pioneers with nostalgic arts & crafts. Learn rope tricks from the Old West from Cowboy Ken too! Critter Fest Museum visitors will meet and touch animals from around the globe, learn how they survive and how they live, and make a buggy creation to take home. Critter encounter stations will enable youngsters to meet The Children’s Museum at La Habra’s very own critters-in-residence too.
Learn lines, use props, dress up, and be a star in a production with the Story Pirates!
Nov 6: Day of the Dead Celebration
Visitors will enjoy the festivities while making decorated sugar skulls and whimsical Calaveras masks, as well as traditional face painting.
Dec 4: Festivals of Lights
Celebrate international festivals of lights including Diwali, Hanukkah and Las Posadas.
Jan 8, 2017 Musical Asia
A musical celebration of three Asian cultures. Experience the thunderous Taiko drums and Chinese hand drums along with graceful traditional dances from Korea and Vietnam. Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to create colorful Asian folk arts in our outdoor art stations.
Feb 5: African American Heritage
An engaging performance by Jazzy Ash & the Leaping Lizards will having you dancing, singing, and learning about the early history of Jazz. Activity stations will offer colorful folkarts celebrating early African American history!
Mar 5: Let's Play
! Hula hoop til you can't hula anymore, build giant outdoor structures, and make a giant fort!
April 2: Reduce, Reuse , Recycle
We're learning how to care for our precious Earth with activities from composting to creating whimsical art with recycled materials.
May 1: Art Escape Arts Festival
The Children’s Museum at La Habra will provide visitors with a spectacular community art festival featuring extended Museum hours and an array of art experiences for even for the youngest of artists! Visitors will be treated to unique artist-led workshops for all ages. Easels and paints will be available for budding artists young and old to create their own plein air painting as they wish. All will be invited to dabble in art and let their imaginations run wild in this art-inspired day!
