Community Partners-

The City of La Habra has been notified by the Orange County Mosquito & Vector Control District (OCMVCD) of multiple positive tests from non-human samples for West Nile Virus (WNV).

The cluster of positive results have been in La Habra’s Osornio & La Bonita Parks, however OCMVCD has advised that two positives tests from non-human samples have been located near Lambert Rd./Euclid.  This has drawn our area of attention from the north-west area of La Habra to include the areas to the south-east: Lambert Rd./Harbor Blvd.

WNV has not been located in human samples in La Habra, but the virus can spread to humans.  Along with the OCMVCD, we recommend that all community members take precautions as outlined by the OCMVCD, including wearing mosquito repellent, long sleeves and pants, and removing standing water at work and at home.

If you are a community leader with care/authority over sports teams or other recreational groups, you are requested to take the precautions outlined by OCMVCD with your players, and to encourage coaches to do the same (please inform your participants and parents).

Information is attached, but can also be located at the OCMVCD website provided in this email.

Precautions that can be taken today include:

  • Drain standing water outside (also remember to check the saucers you may have underneath houseplants)
  • Repair screen doors and window screens
  • Wear mosquito repellent
  • Refrain from outside activity at dawn and dusk (when mosquitoes are most active)
  • Report dead birds, abandoned swimming pools, ponds, and fountains to the OCMVCD

You are encouraged to contact the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District with concerns, and questions.
